Things I Watched On My Holidays
So approximately 24 hours into the 30 hour adventure, what delicious things have I been devouring. Lets do some comprehensive reviewing.
Planes:
Malaysia, Boeing 777-200, seat 15H. Overall rating - 5/10.
Flight entertainment system fairly poor, buggy and slow, old movie options - only watched "In Time" - Justin Timberlake sci fi at its finest (except for the obviously superior Southern Tales), spent most of time reading Kelly Gang, Moon Over Soho - very average magical detective London series, and the excellent In Cold Blood.
Comfort of seats, good - aisle seat, and two spare seats beside me, but I was trying to stay awake for this leg, so not optimal.
Food - challenging, vegan food request had failed to be lodged, fortunately they had spare vegetarian leftovers, and they were vegan anyway. Rather delicious, a malaysian chick pea curry and salad.
Service - they clearly didn't believe me that I'd ordered vegan, and demanded I went to the desk and confirmed for the next leg. Otherwise delightful. Not much alcohol though - and shit wine, Oxford Landing, I mean, seriously.
KLM, Boeing 777-300, seat 43F. Overall rating - 7/10.
Flight entertainment system better than Malaysia, good. Watched a lot of movies. Best one by far, the Fam recommendation, Big Eyes, did not realise it was a Tim Burton, by far the best Tim Burton movie since, maybe, I don't even know, Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, possibly Big Fish, but way better than Big Fish which was self indulgent, but enjoyable. I don't know, something about it worked - acting, the ramp up of emotional intensity, the slight reveals. Another good one, Maps to the Stars, I don't know if it can be said to be good, its just perplexing in an interesting way. Cronenberg at his best. Also watched Magic by Moonlight, Woody Allen's fairly forgettable but again, enjoyable, interaction with Emma Stone, Colin Firth and an anti-spiritualist, meaning of lifey little treatment. Actually wasn't that bad, but I did fall asleep in it. Valium = pretty useless. (Good) wine+brandy on the other hand - helpful for sleep. Got about 5-6 hours miraculously.
Food great as well, vegan successfully ordered, delicious mushroom, beans, hashbrowns for breakfast, and dinner was this glorious mushy thing with lots of veges, and taste, and delicious lemony salad.
Seats average - middle row, someone next to me. but one free seat on the other side. The guy next to me was really good with the fact I needed the toilet every five minutes due to lots of wine and water consumption.
Airports
Auckland International Airport
Kuala Lumpur International Airport - excellent plug situation, loads of plugs, but they were sparking like anything, good food options all over. Air conditioning very minimal, painfully hot, probably 27 or 28 degrees celcius. Miserable vibe.
Amsterdam International Airport - delightful, everything you'd ever want in an airport. Except virtually no vegan food. I got a barrel of peanuts to keep me going. Good plug situation, but I have a feeling I am surrounded by backpackers wanting my plugs. My phone is charging painfully slowly from my computer, doom of low voltage. Great conversation behind me, Portland is basically the same as Minnesota, except with worse weather.
Thats it for now, next stop Sofia, and some sweet, sweet sleep.
